those who experienced listening to the original maria rita version of -cântico brasileiro nº3 (kamaiurá)- on the dancefloor know it’s such a thrilling experience that could only be better if the song was a bit longer. at the same time, it didn’t make much sense to mess with the original. having these thoughts on their minds, the selvagem boys augusto olivani and millos kaiser (the minds behind selva discos) had an insight while discussing the reissue of the -brasileira- material with singer maria rita stumpf: why not hit the studio and remake the track? also, why not ask someone like joakim, known for his exquisite taste and brilliant production skills, to remix -lamento africano/rictus-? it would be the perfect package. and that’s what happened.

thoma bulwer returns with jandaze , his latest ep via parasol culture featuring long-time partner in crime anna wall. it follows parasol 001 their first joint vinyl release, that sold out on the shelves gaining support from the likes of mood ii swing and cab drivers plus on the airwaves via nts. their jandaze ep has already been doing the rounds on the dj circuit in hackney wick and beyond. ‘patience’ was the result of a late night jam session with sync boxes, groove benders and the classic tr-909. after much fine-tuning, it’s been tried and tested by cinthie on her recent australia tour and is set to be a staple club cut for this summer. although ‘insouciant’ means a casual lack of concert, a lot of work went into making this one. it’s the most laid-back of the bunch, with smallville-esque juno 106 melodies perfect for the afterparty or warm up session. this goes out to the post-nyd loft party crew in the wick where it was played for the first time. try pronouncing this one at 7am in the morning… ‘fridge speed’ is a minimal house cut influenced by thoma’s garage roots. think rudely placed analogue synth stab melodies, ‘tuff’ skippy drums and big subs ideal for early hours and “it’s a london thing” house sets. ‘egress’ was made with long jam takes from thoma’s modular system. deep, dubby beats, evolving synths and textures make up this track thats been road-tested on the world famous fabric room 1 sound system by voigtmann in his extended set before ricardo villalobos. current support comes from maya jane coles, archie hamilton franck, roger, cinthie, voigtmann, john dimas.

the mythical liquid pegasus returns - this time on clandestine boogie, firmly setting out his stall as one of the best around when it comes to modern synth boogie. ‘makin it hot opens up proceedings, synth stabs and squelchy basslines a plenty, married with layers of intricate melodies and a vocoder transported straight from the 80 s. matt hughes takes on remix duties converting that squelchy bass synth into a more straight up funk bass guitar, adding shuffling high hats and weaving in a little jazz flute for added effect. on the flip side it s prime low rider cruising courtesy of sparkle combining a full-bodied bass, cosmic pads and woozy synth flurries to create a soundtrack perfect for late night coasting. to close out the e.p. dave allison adds his own sparkle to the track, upping the tempo, adding a range of hazy arps and sweeping synthesis alongside a perfectly executed bass breakdown, taking sparkle from midnight cruiser to boogie bomb.

after putting out kito jempere s well received sea monsters album last year, hell yeah now serve up another selection of remixes of it. accomplished musician jimi tenor, plus miskotom and max essa all contribute before a 7inch, also taken from the album, lands later in summer. first up is jimi tenor, the legndary finnish musician who has released on warp, collaborated with tony allen and has his own band as well as occasionally playing sax with kito jempere band at live gigs. he flips puzzled into five minutes of stripped back and moody electronics with plenty of his own flute playing in the track. busted drum sounds, spooky sci-fi synths and scattered hits make it woozy and late night and utterly absorbing. miskotom—a newly emerging pair made up of mik and his wife andra, both based in vilnius, lithuania with credits on pleasure unit and balearic —then reimagine ampa as a beatdown but of deep house with trudging drums staying low and shimmering synths drift out in all directions. crunchy hits bring a subtle sense of funk and reverb drenched vocals bring a heavenly feel to the soul drenched grooves and summery keys. then comes max essa, the japan based brit who is a regular on this label as well as the likes of is it balearic?. his first remix is a huge one that is sure to soundtrack many a boat party this summer. it s a gorgeous rework of ampa that puts achingly blissful vocals front and centre as low slung bass and slowly turning drums sink you into a pan-pipe laced reverie. secondly, essa offers a dub reprise that removes the vocals and places all the focus on his churning drums and new age grooves. this is another perfect package of masterfully electronic horizontal sounds.

omaggio brings the heat once again with the reissue of prana people, self titled lp originally released in 1977 on prelude. the aleem brothers taharqa and tunde ra (or albert and arthur) are prana people and brought a perfect treasure of disco/funk/soul to make you want to dance from the funked up “is your life a party” to that slow, head nodding sexy groove of “wishful thinking” to proper hands in the air feel good disco of “angels say flee” to the perfect strings and flawless soul of “all around my world”. the combination of the tracks and strong production make for an endlessly playable album, and with the legendary brothers, who since the 60’s have their place in music history, this is an instant buy if not already owned to add to the aleems discography of your collection.

the italian dj and producer viels is the perfect example of a promising artist who has earned his stripes in the scene. his first contribution to dynamic reflection was a single track on a va two years ago, then a solo ep on the nursery last year and now it s time for his first well-earned vinyl called distrophism. although his sound has matured over the years, he has never compromised as far as his straight forward sound goes. circular, the a1, is the best possible example of that. the continuous drive keeps it going for well over seven minutes, without ever becoming superficial or dull. the b-side extends to other sides of his musical spectrum by making use of more drone-like, hypnotic elements. beside these three convincing originals, spanish heavyweight svreca jumps in for a remix of circular, completing the variance of styles. needless to say, this new release, proves that viels as an artist and this ep in particular, are forces to be reckoned with.

producer and vocalist kevin knapp delivers his killer new single blah blah blah, returning to the hot creations fold after last years vocal feature on jamie jones positive pressure. here, jamie returns the favour, partnering with another label favourite, detlef, to supply a monster of a remix. finding time in his hectic schedule of touring the world, running various record labels and his paradise parties, jamie jones teams up with one of his paradise residents detlef to deliver an audacious remix, perfect for the twilight hours. hardy percussion, acid blips and pulses meld together to form a bolshy, no-frills remix. greek artist detlef shot into the limelight in recent years with releases and remixes on labels like hot creations, relief, knee deep in sound, moon harbour, and defected. kevin knapp gained attention with a string collaborations with audiojack (gruuv, 2012), matt tolfrey (leftroom, 2012) and his debut hot creations cut with richy ahmed (2013). a prolific producer and featured vocalist since 2011, kevin has released on the likes of hottrax, crosstown rebels, dirtybird, mother recordings and more.

this is the return of the collaborative project vofa, by sawf and anfs, on pi electronics. the athens based duo, that put out the label’s debut release, deliver another 4-tracker of their signature sound for the 5th pi record. pi05.1 is a bass line oriented composition of thrilling beauty, while pi05.2 and pi05.4 provide different takes on the main pi05 theme: one leaning closer to uk breaks influences and the other closer to industrial, hard hitting broken beats. pi05.3 offers a driving tool of distorted realities and tuning bass lines. all tracks showcase further focus on sound texture and dynamics balance, providing a perfect blend of sawf and anfs in joint forces as vofa.

after the last release, that was more house-oriented, we can say – in a nutshell – that the upcoming ://ab004 is about: techno! with their piece ab1, nx1 take a powerful, break-fueled percussive line, keeping an eye on the big floor with their huge reverb rooms, while stephanie sykes, who grew so close to our hearts, presents a real peak time-slammer with her track blur, that definitely references to her brimming, energetic dj sets. jay quentin, also a friend of the club for many years, nourishes a lotz of warmth and depth in his track information superhigh, which remains still pushing enough for the dancefloor – perfect for a special b side. rave on, ravers!

slow motion s 38th (!!) release comes courtesy of berlin-based gallo who you may know as part of balearic gabba soundsystem. joining the family for his debut solo release gallo drops the tempo for three deep-cuts of blissful balearica. backed up with an acidic, chugging re-rub of faron from fabrizio mammarella which is perfect when the sun goes down, orange stripe arrives just in time for summer. how to get the most of this track: combine it with blissful and dreamy beach-excursions or with a sunset aperitivo. this 38th release has -future classic- written all over it.
